After discovering his talent and ability to play football as well as basketball, he attended East Wake High School and became an All-State selection at tight end and defensive end. His skills and talent became evident to college recruiters and he attended the University of North Carolina from 1994-1997. Some high points in his college career included becoming the first UNC sophomore to be named first-team All-ACC since Reuben Davis in 1985. He was also named honorable mention All-American. The remainder of his college career was remarkable in that he was named second-team All-American by “The Sporting News” and first-team All-ACC. He also earned several awards and recognition as a junior and senior, becoming a coveted recruit for NFL scouts. He graduated college as the school’s all-time sack leader. Professionally, he was drafted with the eighth pick in the first round of the NFL draft in 1998 by the Dallas Cowboys and was the first Cowboys rookie to start on the defensive line since Bob Lilly. He played for the Cowboys from 1998-2008, and was a starter for his entire career. During his time with the Cowboys Ellis was selected to play in 2007 Pro Bowl in Hawaii, also during this time he encountered a torn Achilles tendon. He managed to bounce back from that and received the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year Award. In 2010 Ellis made a decision through prayer to leave the NFL, and begin to focus more on family and his business. After retiring from football, Ellis decided to continue to follow his life vision, by starting businesses in the areas of software, sports and media production. He is the CEO of Play Now Enterprises LLC with brands such as Your Now Network, Play Now All Sports, Play Now Photography and Play Now Studios.
